Tickets are now available for the second annual Vail Craft Beer Classic, taking place June 14-17, in the heart of Vail. A multi-day extravaganza of all things craft beer, presented by Team Player Productions, the festival features paired dinners, educational seminars, brewer-led activities like mountain biking and hiking, and the state’s highest elevation beer tasting. The four-day celebration’s array of events are priced from $35 to $195, and tickets can be purchased online or in-person (for select events) at West Vail Liquors, located at 2151 N. Frontage Rd. The Town of Vail’s Art in Public Places is greatly anticipating the arrival of renowned environmental artist Patrick Dougherty to create a Stickwork sculptural installation in Vail’s Ford Park this June. For over 35 years, the public has been mesmerized by his whimsical sculptural creations in botanical gardens, museum grounds, universities, and other settings around the world. Dougherty has honed his craft at bending and weaving natural materials into over 285 monumental interactive sculptures for an unforgettable experience. ( more)

The Vail Recreation District's 2017 La Sportiva Vail Trail Running Series, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, continues Aug. 26 with the 5K and 10K@10,000 Feet trail running race. Both races, presented by Summit Ford, will begin at 8 a.m. at the top of Gondola One at Mid-Vail on Vail Mountain, with the entire race taking place above 9,000 feet. The average grade of the 10K is 7% with an elevation gain of nearly 1,200 feet, while the shorter 5K is less challenging and will allow runners the chance to experience racing at an impressive altitude. Ask someone about Brazilian jazz and the likely response is bossa nova and “The Girl from Ipanema.” The 1964 recording was a smash hit for Brazilian vocalist Astrud Gilberto and American saxophonist Stan Getz and it propelled the bossa nova sound to world-wide popularity. Ipanema is a toney beach neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro and the lyrics of the song tell the story of a tall, tan, young and lovely girl who sways like a samba when she walks to the sea. ( more)
