Tiaras, Boas, Bubbly, Roses, Runners Come to Vail Aug. 21 for Divas Half Marathon; 13.1 Miles Scenic Running, Less Than 380 Feet Elevation Gain Less than 20 days remain to register for the first-ever Divas Half Marathon® at Vail, which will take runners of all levels into the heart of Colorado Rocky Mountain's on Saturday, Aug. 21 and feature a 13.1 mile journey of glam, tiaras, champagne toasts and more. Recently named by Active.com as one of the most-scenic fall races for 2011, Vail's Divas Half Marathon® participants will enjoy a course with an elevation gain of less than 380 feet and featuring Vail's stunning views of the Gore and Holy Cross Mountain Ranges. Runners will also run amidst the White River National Forest, along Vail's gold-medal Gore Creek and world-class ski mountain, plus through the iconic Vail and LionsHead Villages.  The race weekend festivities will include a welcome reception in LionsHead on Friday, Aug. 19, the Health and Fitness Boutique on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19-20 and various dining, spa and merchant specials for race participants on Saturday, Aug. 20. Other weekend activities will include parties and a post-race "Diva-style" Pub Crawl throughout Vail Village on Sunday, Aug. 21.  The Divas Half Marathon® race day will begin at 8:45 a.m. with the Girls 5K followed by the Divas Half Marathon® at 9:30 a.m. in Ford Park, in the heart of Vail on Sunday, Aug. 21. The race also will have entertainment on the course featuring six DJs and special Divas stops like the feather boa station and tiara stop, an ageless category for those not wanting to divulge their age and a dance party. In addition to the half marathon, there is also a Girl's 5k that will be open to younger athletes, fathers, brothers and other family members who also want to participate in the series. Vail's firefighters will be on hand to deliver roses at the finish line as runners complete the race and participants will enjoy a glass of champagne, presented by Korbel.  Ellen Miller, owner of Mountain Divas in Vail, a motivational fitness program for runners, hikers and climbers, is offering runners tips for preparing to run in Vail. According to Miller, runners shouldn't be intimidated by the high altitude in Vail as the Diva's Half Marathon course is one of the easiest on the race series circuit. "The Divas course features less than 380 feet in elevation gain and is relatively flat with some small short climbs," said Miller. "I would encourage runners to arrive in Vail a couple days prior to race-day, drink plenty of water and enjoy the surrounding wilderness. There is no better place than Vail to run and the beauty of the course will captivate runners during the race and make up for the bit of challenge a runner might feel from the altitude." Cost to run the Vail Divas Half Marathon® is $90 per runner. The Girls 5k cost $25 per person. All Divas Half Marathon® participants receive a finishing medal, personalized racing bibs and a one-of-a-kind women's-fit technical T-shirt.   For more information on the race, lodging or to register, go to www.runlikeadiva.com.
