Presenting Sponsor Columbia Sportswear to Provide Tech T-Shirts to All Racers
The Vail Recreation District's 2013 La Sportiva Vail Mountain Trail Running Series continues Saturday (7/6) with the 37th running of the La Sportiva Vail HillClimb. Named best trail running race in 2006 and most-scenic non-ultra race in 2011 by Colorado Runner magazine, the HillClimb will test local, regional and national runners with a 7.5 mile climb from Vail Village to Vail Mountain's summit, a gain of 2,500 vertical feet. The race begins at 8 a.m. in Vail Village on the paved road adjacent to Vail's Mountain Haus and ascends on gravel trails taking runners to the finish line at Eagle's Nest. The HillClimb is presented by the Vail's Mountain Haus and is the third race of the 2013 La Sportiva Vail Mountain Trail Running Series, which is presented by Columbia Sportswear.

Individual race costs are $29 for preregistration or $39 on race day. Registration is available by going to www.vailrec.com/sports/trail-running-racing or by calling 970-479-2280. Bib pickup will also be available from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday (7/5) at Christy Sports in Vail Village. Racers should park in the Vail Village parking structure at the race start where parking is free for the summer. Day of registration will occur at the race start area from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. The Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead will operate from 8 to 9 a.m. for race-day spectators and volunteers. The gondola will stop running at 9 a.m. and failure to load by 9 a.m. will result in waiting until the gondola reopens at 10 a.m. and paying for a one-day scenic gondola ride ticket. Post-race, the gondola will be free for racers and spectators to download back to Lionshead Village.
Columbia Sportswear will be providing all running participants at each race with it's innovative  Omni-Freeze Zero tech T-shirts,a temperature-regulating shirt that allows sweat to react with blue rings to lower the temperature of the material. When a runner gets hot, it gets cool. Additionally, with UPF 50 sun protection, quick-wicking fabric and antimicrobial treatment, the shirts have the ultimate technology to ensure each runner stays dry, cool and protected.
Prizes also will be presented to the top three finishers of each age group at each race, with series prizes awarded to the top three finishers who compete in at least five events. La Sportiva will provide winners of each age category a pair of mountain running shoes of their choice. Raffle prize drawings also will be held at each race awards ceremony featuring products from area merchants and national companies. Racer Refuel from Northside Coffee & Kitchen will provide nutritious, local and tasty fuel to help racers recover from the grind of the Vail HillClimb.

Following the Vail HillClimb, runners will be challenged during the demanding Vail Half Marathon at 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 21. Then, beginning at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4, the Berry Picker 5k trail run will take participants on an intense 3.2 mile climb from the base of Vail Mountain in Lionshead to Eagle's Nest at the top of Vail Mountain. Runners will then enjoy spectacular views and trail running during the 5k and 10k@10,000 Feet, which takes place at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25 at the top of Vail Mountain with the majority of the race above 10,000 feet in elevation.
