VAIL, CO – May 29, 2012 – A spa outing is more than just a discounted treatment or a mall-side massage; it is about the experience, service, treatments and purpose it serves. This year, more than 28,000 Condé Nast Traveler readers cast their votes to recognize 270 spas in North America, the Caribbean, Hawaii and at sea that not only exceeded expectations, but set new standards. Aria Spa, located at the Vail Cascade Resort & Spa, ranked among these elite spas, moving up 21 spots to seize No. 24 on the ‘Top 100 Resort Spas – U.S. Mainland’ list. Six other Destination Hotels & Resorts sister properties earned recognition as top Resort Spas, including the Spa and Wellness Center at Stowe Mountain Lodge Spa in Vermont, Stowe, VT which ranked No. 7; THE WELL Spa at Miramonte Resort & Spa in Palm Springs, CA and Spa at Squaw Creek in Lake Tahoe, CA both ranked No. 21; Sage Spring Spa at Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, OR ranked 33; The Northwest Face Spa at the Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland, WA ranked No. 44 and the Alvadora Spa at Royal Palms Resort and Spa in Phoenix, AZ ranked No. 77.
According to Condé Nast Traveler, 10 years ago, their annual readers’ survey produced a list of 40 top spas, with the lowest score in the 60s. This year’s survey delivered 270 spas, all with scores above 80. Using the same 100-point rating scale, 28,876 readers rated spas excellent, very good, good, fair, or poor on three criteria: 1) Spa Staff, 2) Spa Treatments and 3) Spa Facilities. Those criterion scores, representing the percentage of respondents who rated a spa excellent or very good, were averaged to determine the overall rating for the spa. A minimum number of responses were required for inclusion in these rankings. Aria Spa earned an overall rating of 94.5 with a 96.7 for Spa Staff, a 95.1 for Spa Treatments and a 91.8 for Spa Facilities. In total, only two spas in Vail ranked in this prestigious reader’s list.
