Registration is underway for the Vail Recreation District's second annual KEEN Family Mud Run, taking place Saturday, Aug. 8 in Vail, Colo. Part of the 2015 Vail Kids Adventure Games, the Family Mud Run is open to all ages and is the perfect opportunity for those who are too young or too old to participate in the Adventure Games, but still want to join in on the activities.
The KEEN Family Mud Run, presented by the Vail Valley Medical Center and the Steadman Clinic, will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the base of Gondola One in Vail Village. Families and individuals of all ages and ability levels are invited to come test their competitive streak during a one mile mud filled race course. The run is a mud lovers event with the Vail Fire Department helping rinse off participants. In addition, all racers will receive a fun commemorative race gift from the sponsors.
VRD Events and Sponsorships Manager Beth Pappas says she is ecstatic about the return of the KEEN Family Mud Run as part of the Vail Kids Adventure Games this year. "The Mud Run was a well-received addition last year as we are always looking for fun ways to get younger and older participants involved in the event that may not be within the age requirements of the Kids Adventure Games," said Pappas. "It's also a great way for visitors, who may not have the whole week to spare, to get down and dirty on Saturday afternoon."
Costs are $50 for a family of four (two adults and two children) who pre-register by Friday, Aug. 7 or $60 day-of registration; $20 for those 15 years and older or $25 day-of; $10 for children 14 years and younger or $15 day-of. On-site registration and preregistered mud run bib pickup is available at KidSPORT in Vail Village (across from Solaris Plaza) during the following dates:
  • 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5
  • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6
  • 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7
  • Noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8
Registration for the KEEN Family Mud Run is available online at www.vailrec.com/sports.
The Vail Kids Adventure Games is a five day event for ages six through 14, where teams of two compete through the fun, but challenging, obstacles set in Vail Village and on Vail Mountain. Prior to the three days of racing, there are two days of skills-clinics available to get racers excited, as well as help increase confidence before the big race. Throughout the event there is a Family Expo which will be held at Solaris in Vail Village.
