and More

(Vail)-The Vail Recreation District (VRD) will host a variety of youth sports camps this summer including volleyball, baseball, sports training, soccer, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse, tennis, sand volleyball and gymnastics. The camps, which will begin in early June and last through August, offer young athletes an opportunity to learn new sports, develop new skills and refine existing skills. This summer also will include the addition a new Flag Football Camp. Details and schedules are below.

Volleyball Skills Camp: June 9-11
Grades 2-12
Vail Mountain School, Vail
Colorado State University Head Volleyball Coach Tom Hilbert will lead participants in individual skills training during the three-day camp. Grades second through sixth will meet from 8 to 9:15 a.m. and grades seventh through 12th will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Costs are $160 for grades seventh through 12th and $60 for grades second through sixth. Rocky Mountain Baseball Camp: June 13-17
Ages Six and Older
Eagle-Vail Baseball Field, Eagle-Vail
Coached by Colorado State University Pueblo Coach Stan Sanchez, the camp is great for all ability levels and will offer participants a chance to learn and improve. Costs are $160 for a full day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or $130 for a half day, 9 a.m. to noon. Children must be eight years or older to attend the full day session. Registration underway. Vail Gymnastics Camp: June 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 11-15, Aug. 15-19 and Aug. 22-26
Ages Five and Older
Vail Gymnastics Center, Vail
Returning for the third summer, these week-long summer camps are for children ages four and older and will not only include gymnastics, but also outdoor adventures  such as hiking, visiting local parks and excursions to Dobson Ice Arena, Vail Nature Center and more. Children will be grouped according to age and skill level. Camp takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and costs $175. Call 970-479-2287 for registration

Girl's Soccer Academy: June 13-15

Ages Six to 15
Eagle-Vail Soccer Field, Eagle-Vail
Returning for its fourth year, experienced local coaches and athletes will lead participants in skills-based sessions including footwork, passing, receiving, touch, shooting and agility in a unique environment. Costs are $115 for a full day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or $85 for a half day, 9 a.m. to noon. Children must be eight years or older to attend the full day session. Registration underway. Call 970-479-2280.

Skateboard Clinics: June 14 to Aug. 16
Ages Seven to 14
Vail Skatepark, LionsHead Parking Structure in Vail
Learn to skateboard at the Vail Skatepark with instructors who teach everything from basic skills and etiquette to perfecting a boardslide or kickflip. Skateboarding classes take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays beginning June 15. Costs per clinic are $20 for VRD residents and $25 Eagle County residents. Purchase five sessions and costs are $15 for VRD residents and $20 for Eagle County residents. Skateboards and helmets required, wrist guards and knee pads recommended. Mini-Hawk Sports Training Camps: June 20-24 or July 18-22
Ages Four to Seven
Donovan Park Playing Field, Vail
This multi-sport program will give children ages four to seven a positive first step into athletics. The camp will include learning the essentials of baseball, basketball and soccer in a safe and fun environment. Campers also will explore balance, movement, hand-eye coordination and skill development. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon and cost $130. Registration underway. Call 970-479-2280.

Vail Golf Club Junior Golf Clinics: June 21-23, June 28-30, July 5-7, July 19-21 and Aug. 2-4
Ages Six to 17
The Vail Golf Club will be offering  five sessions of three-day PAR and Birdie camps late June through early August. These programs cost $85 per session and are for children ages six to 17. Registration will be available in April. Call 970-479-2260 for details.

Vail Golf Club First Tee: June 21-23, June 28-30, July 5-7, July 19-21 and Aug. 2-4

Ages Six to 17
In addition to the Vail Junior Golf Program, the Youth Foundation's First Tee of Eagle County offers a variety of summer programs, many of which take place at the Vail Golf Club. VRD/Skyhawks Lacrosse Camp: July 5-8
Ages Seven to 14
Eagle-Vail Soccer Field, Eagle-Vail
Athletes will learn the fundamentals of stick handling, cradling, passing and shooting in a fun, non-checking environment. Participants also will learn life skills such as respect, teamwork and discipline. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cost $130. Rental equipment is available at an additional cost. Rocky Mountain Beach Volleyball Camp: July 5-7
Grades 6 to 8 and 9 to 12
Sand Courts at the Vail Athletic Field, Vail
Returning  for its second summer, the beach volleyball camp for players who are looking to either learn the sport of beach  volleyball or improve their skills. Players will be grouped according  to ability with a maximum of  10 players per coach. The camp will take  place from 9 to 11 a.m. for  grades nine through 12th and cost $125 per  player. Grades six through  eight will play from 1 to 3 p.m. and cost is $75 per player. Registration underway. Call 970-479-2280.    

British Youth Soccer Camp: July 11-15
Ages Four and Older

Challenger British Soccer brings professional coaches from England will teach participants ball skills, passing, shooting and offensive and defensive techniques. Cost are $175 for a full day, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; $135 for a half day, 9 a.m. to noon; or $99 for ages four to five for lessons from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Children must be eight years or older to attend the full day session. Bob Johnson Hockey School: July 17-23
Ages 8 and Older
Dobson Ice Arena, Vail
Participants will be led by U.S. women's silver medal winning Olympic team coach  and 1980 Olympic gold medal winner Mark Johnson and his qualified staff for a week-long camp to improve on-ice skills and game playing techniques. Costs are $420 for Eagle County residents, $400 for Vail residents, $445 for outside guests or $175 for the goalie camp. Children must be eight years or older with one year of skating experience.

VRD Back-to-Basics All-Star Basketball Academy: July 25-28

Ages Six and Older

Participants will be coached by former NBA All-Star, All-Pro Sydney Moncrief and his award winning staff during this four-day camp, which will concentrate on learning new skills while building on the fundamentals of shooting, passing, dribbling, footwork and defense. Camp takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and cost $145. Registration underway. Call 970-479-2280.

Sidney Moncrief's Shooting Camp: July 25-28
Ages 10 to 16
Location To Be Determined
Camp will emphasize shooting techniqe improvement to give participants an edge needed in a competitive basketball environment. Instruction will  focus on individual shot mechanic analysis and a corrective action  plan; form shooting instruction and training; progressive shooting  practices and competitions; as well as shooting charts with effective  tracking systems.Camp takes place from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and cost is $140. Tetra Brazil Youth Soccer: Aug. 1-5
Ages Seven to 16

Returning for its second summer, the TetraBrazil Soccer Camp will bring Brazilian soccer expertise to Vail  and offer an opportunity for children to learn first-hand the type of soccer training that has made Brazil one of the most successful soccer nations in the world. The camp will combine learning of Brazilian techniques, footwork and moves. Costs are $153 for a half day, 9 a.m. to noon or $193 for a full day,

New! Skyhawks Flag Football Camp: Aug. 8-12
Ages Eight to 12
Ford Park Athletic Fields, Vail
Skyhawks Flag Football Camps teach core skills of passing, catching and de-flagging or defensive positioning, while delivering fun and exciting action. Each camp is organized into training environments designed to prepare kids to be champions both on and off the field. All camps conclude with the Skyhawks Bowl, an action-packed game that gives campers an opportunity to show off their new skills. Cost is $150 per participant. Registration underway. Junior Tennis Camps: Dates to Be Announced
Ages Five and Older
Vail Tennis Center, Vail
Junior Tennis Camps will return for the second summer and  take participant's tennis skills to the next level. Dates and costs will be announced in the spring. In addition, junior tennis lessons take place throughout the summer with a ratio of six students per coach. Lessons are from 9 to 10 a.m. for ages five to six, 10 to 11 a.m. for  ages seven to nine, 11 a.m. to noon for ages 10 to 12 and noon to 1 p.m. for ages 13 to 17. Registration for tennis camps and lessons will be available beginning in late May. Call 970-479-2294
