(Vail)--The Vail Recreation District (VRD) is pleased to announce Suunto as its new presenting sponsor of the 2011 La Sportiva Vail Mountain Trail Running Series. Suunto joins title sponsor La Sportiva and will help take the series to a new level this summer, which will offer runners approximately 61 miles and 14,747 vertical feet in elevation gain on Vail and Beaver Creek Mountain's scenic trails and in Eagle this summer.
Suunto is a leading designer and manufacturer of sports precision instruments for training, mountaineering, hiking, skiing, sailing and diving. Prized for their intuitive design, accuracy and dependability, their precise instruments combine the aesthetics and functionality of watches with sport-specific computers that help athletes at all levels analyze and improve their performance. "We are excited to partner with the VRD on the La Sportiva Vail Trail Running Series," said Chris McKearin, Consumer Marketing & Events Coordinator for Suunto North America. As part of the partnership, Suunto will provide the series winner in each category an M5 Running Pack which includes a heart rate monitor and speed and distance training tools as well as other products during raffles throughout the summer. "We strive to provide the best possible experience for our participants, including offering them the best prizes for their efforts and Sunnto is the best product in their category," said VRD race director, Marc Thomas. "We are excited to work with Suunto this summer to continue to elevate our events for everyone involved."
Named best race series of 2005 and 2008 by regional magazine Colorado Runner, this summer's seven-race series will celebrate 14 years of trail running racing in the Vail Valley. The series will take place Saturdays and Sundays and distances will range from five kilometers (3.2 miles) to 14.5 miles. A schedule of the races is available by clicking here.
Individual race costs are $28 for pre-registration or $38 on race-day. Runners also can register for the entire race series for $170 by May 13. Prizes will presented to the top three finishers of each age group at each race, with series prizes awarded to the top three finishers who compete in at least five events. Raffle prize drawings also will be held at each race awards ceremony featuring products from area merchants and national companies.
