VAIL, Colo. – June 7, 2011 – One is a 20-year resident of the Vail Valley, is one of only five women to have summitted Mount Everest from both sides – Nepal and Tibet – and has climbed four 8,000-meter peaks in the Himalaya. The other is an accomplished mountaineer – summitting and guiding on Everest, Denali, Aconcagua, Peak Lenin and Kilimanjaro. Both are leaders, coaches and motivational powerhouses. Together, Ellen Miller and Laurie Bagley have created an experiential learning program combining physical challenges with guided goal setting and personal way-finding, called Summit!, debuting at The Vitality Center at Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa July 31 – August 3, 2011.
“We work with many people who are determined to excel physically and there is always a mental component that goes along with that type of goal,” said Ellen Miller. “By combining the fitness challenge with goal-setting work we are able to really dig in and help participants explore and improve the way they live their lives on a daily basis.”
Summit! features: daily guided morning hikes on Vail Mountain; a full goal-setting workshop led by Bagley exploring personal values and how to tap them to achieve balance and live out a dream; revitalizing afternoon yoga sessions at The Yoga Studio at the Vail Athletic Club (VAC); a comprehensive fitness presentation with Miller; and all of the amenities offered through Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa and The Vitality Center.
“This program offers participants an opportunity to discover their passions – whatever they may be – and teaches people how to take life to the next level,” added Miller. “Laurie and I both excel at helping people achieve their personal best.”
In addition to her climbing achievements, Miller is the owner of an outdoor fitness business called Mountain Divas, available at the VAC. She is a certified Level 2 USATF Endurance coach and coaches/manages the U.S. Women’s Mountain Running Team. She is a former competitive athlete (adventure racing, Nordic skiing, running) and was named Colorado Sportswoman of the Year in 2002 for excellence and longevity in mountaineering and competitive sports. Miller is the founder of The Climb for Literacy, an annual fundraiser involving children’s climbing teams, which raises funds for Third World Education. She is involved in numerous community events in the Vail Valley. She also works as a trek/climbing guide in the Himalaya.
Bagley holds an MS in Outdoor Leadership, is a mother, entrepreneurial business owner and a teacher. Her business, Life Journeys, focuses on motivational speaking, goal setting workshops, fitness coaching and presenting her Everest climb documentary. From 1999 to 2004, Bagley raced on a top ten world class adventure racing team. She won the California Outdoor Hall of Fame award in 2006, and her story has been featured in the Sacramento Bee, San Francisco Chronicle, Her Sports and Enjoy magazines. Bagley has appeared as a guest on various public and syndicated radio shows, including Jefferson Public Radio; she also has been a guest on local television as well as a keynote speaker for companies including Edward Jones and Southern Oregon University. Bagley is committed to empowering others.
Cost for the four-day workshop, including three nights’ lodging at Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa, is $695 per person (based upon double-occupancy; single rates are available).
