Early Registration for VRD Residents on Friday, March 30
(Vail)-Registration for the Vail Recreation District's (VRD) Community Programming summer programming will officially begin on Monday, April 2. Early registration will be available for VRD residents from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, March 30. Then, beginning at 8 a.m. on April 2, registration forms can either be hand delivered to Community Programming, located on the second floor of the LionsHead Welcome Center, faxed to 970-479-2835 or scanned and emailed to email@example.com. Spaces for Camp Vail, Pre Kamp Vail, Extreme Camp Vail, Camp Eco Fun and the Mad Scientist program are available on a first-come, first-served basis until all the spaces have been filled. No online registration is available for the Community Programming summer camps. The camps offer children ages two and half to 14 a myriad of indoor and outdoor activities as follows:
Camp Vail: Monday-Friday, June 11 to Aug. 17
Vail's premier day camp, Camp Vail, invites children ages five (and entering Kindergarten) through 12 to experience a variety of activities including outdoor adventures, swimming, martial arts, art and science activities, special outings and more. Drop off is from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and pick up is from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Costs are $47 per day, per child for VRD and Eagle County residents or $64 per day, per child for out-of-county residents. Five-and 10-day sessions are available for $220 and $390 for VRD and Eagle County residents or $310 and $570 for out-of-county residents. Receive $2 off every day reserved and paid for by May 31.
Pre Kamp Vail: Monday-Friday, June 11 to Aug. 17
One of the only preschool-specific programs in the Vail Valley during the summer, Pre Kamp Vail offers children ages two-and-half to five years daily activities including arts and crafts, songs, games and daily adventure outings. Drop off is from 8 to 9 a.m. and pick up is from 4 to 5 p.m. Costs are $49 per child, per day for VRD and Eagle County residents and $67 per child, per day for out-of-county residents. Five-and 10-day sessions are available for $235 and $420 for VRD and Eagle County residents or $320 and $590 for out-of-county residents. Receive $2 off every day reserved and paid for by May 31.
Camp Eco Fun: June 11 to Aug. 16
VRD Community Programming joins the Nature Center for a unique two-day, per week program that includes exploration of ecology including local flora and fauna. Participants spend half the day at the Nature Center enjoying activities led by Walking Mountains Science Center naturalists. The other half is spent with VRD staff enjoying nature-orientated arts, crafts and activities that complement the daily theme. There are two age groups for Camp Eco Fun: Hummingbirds for ages four to six with sessions Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday and Hawks for ages seven to 11 with sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. The camp takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two-day sessions cost $80 per child for VRD and Eagle County Residents or $100 per child for out-of-county residents. Core Corps offer five session registrations and each two-day session costs $70 per child for VRD residents, $75 per child for Eagle County residents or $90 per child or out-of-county residents. Core Corps must register five or more sessions by April 27.
Extreme Camp Vail: Fridays, July 29 to Aug. 3
For the more adventurous campers, Extreme Camp Vail will take place Fridays and will offer children ages eight to 13 adventure-packed days including inflatable kayaking, indoor skydiving, high ropes and zipline challenge, a trip to the Glenwood Caverns and a trip to Water World to name a few. Costs are $30 to $60 per day, per child with Camp Vail registration.
Mad Scientist: Fridays, July 13 to Aug. 10?
Returning for its second summer, Mad Scientists will allow children ages seven to 12, to explore topics to a depth rarely achieved with elementary-age children.The VRD has chosen different topics to help young scientists gain a better understanding of how the world works. Children will experiment, build, discuss, revise and learn. Topics include rockets, buoyancy, balancing, engineering and more. The program takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Golden Peak Children's Center. Cost is $50 per day, which includes all materials.
Skateboard Clinics: June 12 to Aug. 14
Vail's Skatepark will return this summer on the top deck of the LionsHead parking structure in Vail. VRD instructors will teach participants everything from basic skills and etiquette to perfecting tricks. Skateboard clinics will take place on Tuesdays and are for ages seven to 14 years old. Costs are $20 per clinic for VRD and Eagle County residents or $25 for out-of-county residents. Register for five or more clinics and receive a $5 discount per clinic.
