The Four-Day Festival, June 20-23, Offers Colorado’s Highest Altitude Beer Tasting, Adventure and Beer Education, Alongside Inaugural Rocky Mountain Burger Battle
VAIL, Colo. – (March 20, 2019) – Tickets are now available for the third annual Vail Craft Beer Classic, taking place June 20-23 in the heart of Vail. A multi-day extravaganza of all things craft beer, presented by Team Player Productions, the festival features cooking and beer pairing classes; educational seminars; brewer-led activities such as road biking, fishing and hiking; and the state’s highest elevation beer tasting. The festival will kick off with the inaugural Rocky Mountain Burger Battle on Thursday, June 20. The four-day celebration’s array of events are priced from $25 to $195, and tickets can be purchased online at VailCraftBeerClassic.com.
 
The Vail Craft Beer Classic has curated a group of lauded industry leaders and public figures to lead this year’s events; participating “geeks and guests” include:
  • Carol & Tim Cochran: The Cochrans are the owners and founders of Horse & Dragon Brewing Co., celebrating its milestone five-year anniversary in 2019.
  • Chad Yakobson: The owner and brewmaster of Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project and a leader in understanding the Brettanomyces yeast in the brewing industry.
  • Justin Wright: Certified Cicerone and competition judge.
 
More participating “geeks and guests” to be announced.  
 
Events
Vail Craft Beer Classic events feature the best in craft beer from across the country and internationally, with more than 300 beer, wine and spirit samples from craft breweries, wineries and distilleries over the course of the festival weekend.
 
  • Rocky Mountain Burger Battle: Thursday, June 20, 5:30p.m. ($45)
The inaugural Rocky Mountain Burger Battle is the ultimate burger showdown. Taste and vote for the best burger from an impressive, curated bracket of independently owned restaurants across the region.
 
  • Sip at the Summit: Friday, June 21, 6 – 9 p.m. ($75)
Ride the gondola to the top of Vail Mountain for the highest altitude beer tasting in the state (and possibly the country), complete with Rocky Mountain sunset views and a BBQ feast. Presented by the Colorado Brewers Guild, Sip at the Summit will exclusively feature Colorado beers, poured by more than 30 local brewers. The talented chefs of Vail Resorts will provide paired bites.
 
  • Ales & Anglers: Saturday, June 22, 8 a.m. – 1p.m. ($195)
The Eagle River that runs directly through Vail supports an abundance of rainbow and brown trout. The Vail Craft Beer Classic offers a unique, intimate seminar for all fly fishing skill levels, topped off with a picnic lunch and refreshing beers with Chad Yakobson, owner of Crooked Stave Artisans. Limited to 10 tickets, anglers will be outfitted for a guided river trip followed by a boozy picnic lunch.
 
  • Gears & Beers Lunch: Saturday, June 22, 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. ($80; $110 includes bike rental)
Vail is known for two things, both combined for the Gears & Beers event: World-class biking and dining. This road ride starts at the top of Vail Pass and ends with a paired lunch with New Belgium Brewing.
 
  • Hike & Hops Lunchinar: Saturday, June 22, 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. ($60)
Up a mountain and down a beer. Local ambassadors will guide guests and the brewer owners of Horse & Dragon Brewery on a scenic hike throughout Vail. Following the outdoorsy excursion, adventurers will enjoy a paired lunch from Vail Chophouse, complete with beer from Horse & Dragon.
 
  • Tales from the Taproom Brew Day: Saturday, June 22, 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. ($25)
Learn practical ways to improve your homebrew from experienced brewers and owners during this informal panel and Q&A session. Three master brewers will cover their wins, fails and “we-probably-shouldn’t-admit-this” topics. Get one-on-one time during this intimate, educational seminar.
 
  • Beer Appétit – Cooking vs. Pairing: Saturday, June 22, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. ($25)
Explore the metamorphosis of beer and food together, whether expertly paired or added to the cooking process. This crash course provides guests the knowledge and confidence to create unique beer pairings and add beer to at-home recipes.
 
  • WTF! Whiskey, Tannin, Frothy: Saturday, June 22, 12 – 1:30 p.m. ($65)
This luncheon features a deeper dive into food pairings, led by expert sommeliers and cicerones. Small plates are matched with a variety of wines, whiskeys and beers to offer guests a chance to explore the full spectrum of food pairings. This seminar aims to expand the senses, increase knowledge and impress the palate.
 
  • Chasing Trends Tasting: Saturday, June 22, 1 – 2 p.m. ($25)
What does it take to stand out in a crowded market of breweries and new beer styles? Three master brewers discuss their latest and most creative concepts to stay on top. Guests are invited to sample hemp beers, Brut IPAs, Norwegian farmhouse and open-fermented brews, and even explore unusual pairings, like beer and bugs.
 
  • Toast of Vail: Saturday, June 22, 3 – 6 p.m. (VIP: $79. GA: $49; $59 week of the festival)
The biggest tasting of the weekend is anything but traditional. The Toast of Vail culminates with an impressive selection of more than 50 breweries from coast to coast (and some international offerings) in the heart of Vail, adjacent to Solaris Plaza. Live bluegrass music sets the tone as guests enjoy samples of their favorites, find rare new offerings and have the chance to meet industry leaders and popular public figures during special pop-up sessions. A free concert in Solaris Plaza will carry the fun into the evening, until 7:30 p.m. VIP ticketholders can relax in a private area and enjoy extra exclusive tastings from select breweries with a special commemorative pint glass.
 
  • Hair of the Dog Hike: Sunday, June 23, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. ($60)
There’s no better way to conclude a weekend full of beer festivities than a recovery hike, and well – more beer. Enjoy an exclusive spirits and beer tasting and the fresh mountain air.

The Beer Lovers Package ($120) includes a ticket to Sip at the Summit and GA admission to the Toast of Vail.
 
The VIP Beer & Burger Lover Package ($150) includes a ticket to the inaugural Rocky Mountain Burger Battle and VIP access to the Toast of Vail. The Burger & Beer Lover Package ($90) includes a ticket to the Rocky Mountain Burger Battle and GA admission to the Toast of Vail. The Beer & Burger Weekender Package ($170) includes a ticket to the Rocky Mountain Burger Battle, Sip at the Summit, and VIP access to the Toast of Vail.

In the spirit of pairing craft beer with adventure, the 2019 Vail Craft Beer Festival benefits community nonprofit partner, Vail Valley Mountain Bike Association.
 
The Vail Valley Mountain Bike Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that aims to establish Eagle County, Colo., as a premier mountain biking and hiking destination. The organization, founded in 2011, coordinates volunteer trail work, organizes events, trains volunteer trail construction crew leaders and donates its shared talents, time and leadership to support local soft surface trail initiatives.
