September 12th – 17th  marks the return of the Colorado Grand as drivers arrive with their vintage and remarkable racing and sports cars, reuniting in Lionshead to celebrate the 28th annual Colorado Grand.

Vail welcomes back the Colorado Grand, a truly unique auto event that begins and ends in Vail each year.  Participants will begin to arrive this weekend as they prepare to begin their 1000 mile journey this Monday, September 12th.  The pre-1960 vintage vehicles will roar out of Vail Monday morning, headed out on a beautiful but arduous trek across the Colorado countryside.  Rain or shine, the drivers will make the four day trip through the mountains, returning to Vail in style Friday, September 16th, by crossing the event finish line in Lionshead. The cars will then continue on a well deserved victory lap - cruising by local shops and restaurants as they make their way through the Village.  Saturday morning will bring more celebration of these truly exceptional vintage sports cars, the likes of pre 1960’s Aston Martins, Bentleys, Ferraris and Jaguars, during the Colorado Grand Concours d’Non Elegance.

2016 will mark the 28th anniversary of the Colorado Grand.  Year after year the event has continued to attract participants from around the world, typically including several 1920’s and 30’s vehicles set to make the long journey as well as a wide array of makes ranging from Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari to Aston Martin, Bentley and Bugatti.  Since its start in 1989 as a charitable event, the Colorado Grand has donated more than 4.5 million dollars to worthy Colorado charities and communities. In addition to these deserving organizations, the event also awards an $8000 college scholarship to a graduating high-school senior in each of the towns that host their lunch stops along their four day journey. The generous donations are made possible by the event’s participants and sponsors who choose to return year after year to enjoy scenic routes, new friends and contributing to a good cause.

Though the drivers still have a full four day journey ahead of them, all eyes in Vail turn to the Grand’s culminating events.  In typical form, they will cap off the event’s final weekend in style with a Finish Line Celebration Friday afternoon as well as a Concours D’Non Elegance Saturday morning. Upon returning to the Vail Valley on Friday, September 16th, the Grand participants will take their vintage cars across the finish line at the Lionshead Archway, before completeing a victory lap through Lionshead Village. One can expect cars to intermittently filter in throughout the afternoon into the evening, from approximately 2:30-5:00 pm.  The opportunity to celebrate with the drivers and their automobiles in Lionshead is provided as they stroll through the Village before resting their pride and joy for the evening. Celebrations will then continue to take place throughout all of Lionshead restaurants and decks with Colorado Grand specials provided throughout the weekend.

Saturday, September 18th, will bring the exceptional exhibition of these automobiles with the Concours D’Non Elegance. The Grand continues from 9 am – 12 pm as the vintage cars line the streets of Lionshead. This provides spectators the rare opportunity to view these special cars up close and personal exactly as they appeared upon returning from their arduous trek through the high country.
