(Vail)-A variety of youth sports camps are scheduled this month with the Vail Recreation District (VRD) including volleyball, baseball, sports training, tennis, martial arts, soccer, golf and gymnastics. Camps are filling quickly and registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Details are as follows:

Grades 2-12   |    Vail Mountain School, Vail
Colorado State University Head Volleyball Coach Tom Hilbert will lead participants in individual skills training during the three-day camp. Grades second through sixth will meet from 8 to 9:15 a.m. and grades seventh through 12th will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Costs are $160 for grades seventh through 12th and $60 for grades second through sixth. Coached by Colorado State University Pueblo Coach Stan Sanchez, the camp is great for all ability levels and will offer participants a chance to learn and improve. Costs are $160 for the full day session, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., or $130 for a half day session, 9 a.m. to noon. Children must be eight years or older to attend the full day session.

These week-long summer camps are for children ages five and older and will not only include gymnastics, but also outdoor adventures such as hiking, visiting local parks and excursions to Dobson Ice Arena, Vail Nature Center and more. Children will be grouped according to age and skill level. Camp takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cost is $175 per camper. Camps are also scheduled for July 11-15, Aug. 15-19 and Aug. 22-26.

Returning for its fourth year, experienced local coaches and athletes will lead participants in skills-based sessions including footwork, passing, receiving, touch, shooting and agility in a unique environment. Costs are $115 for a full day, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. or $85 for a half day, 9 a.m. to noon. Children must be eight years or older to attend the full day session.

Learn to skateboard at the Vail Skatepark with instructors who teach everything from basic skills and etiquette to perfecting a boardslide or kickflip. Skateboarding classes take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, beginning June 15. Costs per clinic are $20 for VRD residents and $25 Eagle County residents. Purchase five sessions and costs are $15 for VRD residents and $20 for Eagle County residents. Skateboards and helmets required, wrist guards and knee pads recommended.

This multi-sport program will give children ages four to seven a positive first step into athletics. The camp will include learning the essentials of baseball, basketball and soccer in a safe and fun environment. Campers also will explore balance, movement, hand-eye coordination and skill development. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon and cost $130. Camp also is scheduled for July 18-22.

The Vail Golf Club will be offering five sessions of three-day PAR and Birdie camps late June through early August. These programs cost $85 per session and are for children ages six to 17. Junior camps are also available July 5-7, July 19-21 and Aug. 2-4.

Returning for its second summer, the VRD will offer Martial Arts Children's Karate and Safety Camps for ages five to 12. The camps will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and are a great way to introduce children to, or increase their knowledge of, all aspects of martial arts. These holistic programs blend major Japanese, Korean, Chinese and American martial arts with the national award-winning Alert Kids Kidnap Prevention program. With 30 years experience teaching and empowering children, instructor Mathew Bayley, Master of the Martial Arts, is offering a well-rounded program that develops self-discipline, self-respect, and gives each child the tools and ability to keep themselves safe when you are not around. Additional camps are scheduled for July 11-15 and Aug. 8-12.

The Tennis Center will offer four weeks of Youth Tennis Camps for ages five to teens. Costs are $160 for VRD residents and $185 for guests. Camps will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. In addition, junior tennis lessons take place throughout the summer with a ratio of six students per coach. Lessons are from 9 to 10 a.m. for ages five to six, 10 to 11 a.m. for ages seven to nine, 11 a.m. to noon for ages 10 to 12 and noon to 1 p.m. for ages 13 to 17. Tennis camps are also scheduled for July 11-15, Aug. 1-5 and Aug. 8-12.

In addition to the Vail Junior Golf Program, the Youth Foundation's First Tee of Eagle County offers a variety of summer programs, many of which take place at the Vail Golf Club. The Youth Foundation First Tee of Eagle County offers PAR, Birdie, Player's League and Girls Night Out programs.

The VRD also has a variety of camps scheduled throughout the summer including lacrosse, beach volleyball, soccer, ice hockey, basketball and a new flag football camp.
