Vail's skatepark, located on the top deck of the Lionshead parking structure, will open today (6-3). The park's elements include a half-pipe, pyramid, multiple ramps, transitions, rails and banks, including features for younger or less experienced riders to hone their skills.
The skatepark will again be managed by the Vail Recreation District and will be open from dawn to dusk each day through early to mid-October. The VRD also will offer skateboard clinics on Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to noon for ages seven to 14 and noon to 1 p.m. for ages four to six, throughout the summer beginning June 10. Look for more information about skateboard competitions once summer starts.
Helmets will be required for all park users; bikes and scooters are not permitted.

The Town of Vail and Vail Recreation District are beginning the process of evaluating the atrium area of the Lionshead parking structure for possible construction of a permanent skatepark facility. The results of the evaluation will be presented to the Vail Town Council later this summer. This will be the eighth year for the seasonal installation.
